Thunder Bay, Ontario – Funding of $6.6 million for 132 new affordable housing rental units for seniors living on low income was announced today in Thunder Bay.
|
Over the next three years (2008–2011), CEISS will roll out new support services and facilities. These are tailored to all seniors, from those living independently with mild or moderate support needs, to the elderly who require 24-hour care.
CEISS evolved after the City of Thunder Bay decided to return 300 of its municipally run long-term beds (located in Dawson Court and Grandview Lodge) to the province of Ontario in January 2009. These long-term care beds will remain open until the new CEISS facility is operating.
This progressive seniors' project is the first of its kind in Ontario. It will become a model for the rest of the province in the integration of services for better seniors' health care.
The new CEISS includes:
|
Enhanced services for existing supportive housing units;
Community support services for an additional 120 clients; and
Special funding for services provided by LHIN funded organizations, to support a senior client temporarily on a higher service level.
336 new long-term care beds, including 64 beds for seniors in the North West with responsive behaviours (i.e. dementia);
132 new supportive housing units;
|
The project provides many benefits for seniors, the Thunder Bay community and the north west region.
Seniors began receiving the added support services in 2008 through the North West Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) and community support service agencies. The new supportive housing and long-term care facility will be operated by St. Joseph Care Group's (SJCG) and is being built on SJCG's Hogarth-Riverview Manor site. Construction will be complete in 2012.
